Girls Flag Football To Join Lions All-Stars Football Saturday
Summary of the Tracy Press story on the first girls flag football all-star game joining the Lions All-Star Football Saturday lineup.
The 50th Annual Lions All-Star Football Game will include a major new addition on Saturday, June 20, 2026: the first girls flag football North vs. South all-star game. The girls game begins at 5 p.m., with the traditional boys all-star football game to follow.
Girls Flag Debut
The girls flag game brings together top players from within Lions District 4-A1, which stretches through the Central Valley from Merced to Lodi and east into the Sierra Foothills.
The North girls flag team has been practicing at Kimball High's Don Nicholson Stadium under David Rios, the 2025 Tri-City Athletic League Coach of the Year and head coach of the North team.
- Emma Coronado (Kimball): TCAL Most Valuable Player and one of the nation's top quarterbacks in passing yards and touchdowns.
- Kameiyah DePerio (Kimball): One of four Kimball players selected for the North roster.
- Anaiya Garcia (Kimball): Part of the Kimball group from a 24-3, 10-0 TCAL championship team.
- Amazjah Wyatt (Kimball): Another Jaguar representative on the North team.
- Izabella Gutierrez (Tracy): Running back/linebacker and the TCAL Offensive Player of the Year.
- Aubrie Prichard (Tracy): Tracy High representative on the North roster.
The South girls flag team is led by Atwater High co-coaches Nathan Ramirez and Capri Abbasi.
Boys Game Follows
The boys football game continues a Lions tradition that dates back to 1974. It was paused for three years during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this year's game marks the 50th annual edition.
The North boys team has been practicing at Escalon High under head coach Andrew Beam. Local players from the Tracy area include Ruben Cornejo of Tracy High, Dawson Pelech of Kimball, and Alekisio Vakauta of West High.
The South boys team is coached by Frank Marques of Hilmar, where the South has practiced during game week.
ALLRISE Foundation Sponsor
The major sponsor for this year's event is the ALLRISE Foundation, founded by New York Yankees star and Linden High graduate Aaron Judge. Judge was selected to play in the Lions All-Star Game in 2010, but opted out as he began his collegiate baseball career at Fresno State. The foundation's donation will help pay for all player jerseys in this year's boys and girls games.
MVP Awards
After the boys game, players will be honored with awards named for the founders of the all-star game: the Wayne Schneider MVP Award, the Bob Mattos Defensive MVP Award, and the Les Ratzlaff Offensive MVP Award.
The girls flag game will also have named awards. The overall MVP will receive the Elizabeth Gibbs MVP Award, the defensive MVP will receive the Francis & Norma Bognuda Award, and the offensive MVP will receive an award named for Jane Williford. All four honorees have been longtime contributors to the Lions All-Star Football Game, with Elizabeth Gibbs serving as game director for many years.
